Bio / Interview

Name: Mauricio Abreu
Aka: Morris
Born: Salvador, Brazil
Reside: Maui, Hawaii
Height / weight: 6' / 175 pounds
Kiting Since: Summer 1997

Your 08 LF Setup: Havoc kites, Concept 139 with Escalades Bindings or 6'2 Rawson Lf Quad Surfboard.

Music Playlists: Placebo, Linkin Park, Bad Religion, Nofx, Tool...

Before Riding: I have to listen some good tunes. A bad song can kill my session, especially reggae.
After RIding: Cold Beer.

Favorite energy source/motivator for kiting: My Friends, good waves, wakeboard videos and a cup of Acai.

What is your cross training sports(s): Surfing and Jui-jitsu.

Describe your first kiteboarding experience: Helping my friend Maria with a Wipika Classic, by the end of the day the kite had gone on the trees 6 times but I was hooked, my life changed after that day.

Describe your best moments in kiteboarding: I had so many good memories, session with Lou were always the best, and I had some great days with the ACL crew too!

What is the best location you have kited and why for:

Flatwater: Kitebeach, Maui
Scenery: Tahiti
Waves: Macaronis, Mentawais
Sliders: Real Kiteboarding and Antigua
People/Atmosphere: Hood River

What drives you to get up in the morning and go kite: Not much, In Maui we can only kite after 11am. It's the law! So I get some business done and then hit the water.

What are your personal goals for kiteboarding: Have as much fun as I can and never do it for the money.

Where do you want to travel that you have not been yet? Sunbawa, Indonesia and New Caledonia

Where have you been that will always remain in your mind? Mentawais and Tahiti. Great places to kite if you get it right.

Why do you choose LF: Because is the only company that I would few proud to be part of it and they always had the best and coolest gear.

What makes LF different and special: It's a company that has a solid back ground, they made wakeboarding what it is today. They are doing the same for kiteboarding. And they are like a big family too, they respect and appreciate their riders.

Where do you see kiteboarding in 5 years: On Fuel TV, with solid images of un-strapped surfing and some sick sliders and kicker tricks with some crazy angles!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years: Still chasing swells around the globe and doing my slider trips to Antigua, OZ and Hood River.

What has been your most personal contribution to the sport that has had the most impact/influence: Sticking to what I believe, not selling out and never taking the short cuts. Few of the best in the world took the same approach and they keep passing that on, maybe everyone will be like that one day!

Describe the ultimate day of kiting- conditions, friends, gear, location, etc: Kitebeach with NE winds on a 10m kite with kickers in the inside with my crew (Moe, Dre, Jason, Stav, Lou, Nicolo...) Or Peru on a warm day with Mulcoy, Ben and Moe with head high surf. But it wouldn't be a ultimate day without Elliot and Tracy shooting from the beach.

What else is in your life outside of kiting: My family (my wife Misty, my daughter Malia and my son Cody), My house, my restaurant (Maui Ocean Grill), my rentals (Mauibythebeach.com) and my surfing friends (Yuri, Theo, Mike...).
